Alpine Capital Hires From Wilmington Trust

St. Louis, Mo.-based firm Alpine Capital Research (ACR) has added Daryl Grayson to help oversee “the firm’s marketing and sales efforts to the financial intermediary and institutional channels,” an announcement said today.

The 25-year veteran joins as the Alpine Investment Management subsidiary’s new chief operating officer and national marketing director. His duties include expanding distribution relationships with national and regional brokerage firms, and financial advisors. Additionally, the former Wilmington Trust Director of External Distribution will “target retirement plans sponsors, consultants, foundations, endowments and the pension fund community”, a March 9 press release said.

In a conversation today, Nicholas Tompras, ACR president and CIO, told IMW that the hire for the newly created post came as a result of the firm’s recent exceptional performance record. Tompras said that ACR felt now was the time to start marketing itself. Additionally, the president said the Grayson’s officer duties are a result of a redistribution of executive powers. Previously, he led the firm’s operations, Tompras said.

Tompras added that Grayson assumed his new role in November.

Prior to his appointment at Wilmington Trust, Grayson served as a senior VP and national sales manager at Gabelli Asset Management, in addition to other executive sales positions at Delaware Investments, Bankers Trust and OppenheimerFunds, the release said.

"I have been seeking an opportunity to join a firm with a long-term track record that has been successful attracting assets, delivering investment results and is committed to expanding its distribution capabilities," Grayson said in the statement. "ACR has established a loyal client base by creating and promoting a customer intimacy model predicated on frequent client communication and transparency, traits today's investor community really admire."
