Edward “Jay” Southgate has joined Dechert as an asset finance and securitization partners in its global finance practice.
At Dechert, Southgate will represent financial institutions, issuers and underwriters in deals such as private placements of residential mortgage- and asset-backed securities, with a particular focus on consumer lending and fintech, the law firm said in a statement.
Southgate started at the firm on Wednesday, March 9. Also, he joins the firm amid recent additions of leveraged finance partners, including Alon Goldberger and Ani Ravi.
Southgate also counsels financial institutions in connection with negotiating flow purchase and servicing arrangements with platform originators. He will also work on the warehouse financing of a broad range of products, including credit card and equipment receivables.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, Southgate had been of counsel at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, in New York City, as well as a vice president at Goldman Sachs.
“Jay is an accomplished lawyer and will be a fantastic addition to our firm,” according to a statement from Laura Swihart, co-chair of Dechert’s global finance and real estate practice groups. “With significant experience in complex financings and securitizations across residential mortgage-backed securities and asset finance and securitization spaces, and a particular focus on consumer lending and fintech, Jay’s practice has both breadth and depth.”
