Inter-dealer broker Phoenix Partners hired emerging markets specialist Niels Nooy as European head of emerging markets.
Nooy will be responsible for the day to day running of the desk, reporting to partner Alex Hucklesby.
Nooy was previously an emerging market asset manager at Denmark-based Global Evolution. He headed up international sales and distribution across products including long-only funds, CDOs and hedge funds.
Before this, he was at Merrill Lynch for four years trading emerging markets debt with a focus on Russia and Eastern Europe.
He started his career in emerging markets at ING Barings where he spent nine years trading EM distressed and defaulted sovereign and corporate debt.
Founded in 2005, Phoenix focuses on credit and equity derivatives, with operations in New York, London and Paris.
