Law firm Paul Hastings added a partner to its leveraged finance practice in Europe.
The firm hired Karl Balz, who was most recently with the London office of Hengeler Mueller. He will be based in Frankfurt, Germany and London and will focus on securities, especially high yield bonds as well as rights offerings, restructurings, other leveraged financings, M&A and private equity deals.
William Schwitter, chairman of the firm’s leveraged finance practice, said Balz’s addition reflects the firm’s aggressive activity in the European leveraged finance markets.
It is part of a larger expansion of the firm’s leveraged financing group, which included the hiring of three partners last year: Michael Baker in August, Rich Farley in June and Michael Michetti in July.
