As expected, John Courson has taken over as the president and chief executive of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) as of Jan. 1.
Most recently Courson, was MBA's chief operating officer. He succeeds Jonathan Kempner who in July announced that he would leave MBA at the end of last year. Courson was the president and chief executive of the now-defunct Central Pacific Mortgage Co., and served as MBA's chairman in 2003.
The current chairman of MBA, David Kittle, said, "John brings to MBA a wealth of experience and industry knowledge, and I am confident in his leadership both in terms of business savvy, political and advocacy skills."
In 2004, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Courson to the board of the California Housing Finance Agency, and prior to becoming a staff member at MBA was its chairman.
