CIT Hires Chief Credit Officer

CIT Group has hired a new credit chief along with a new head of administrative affairs, the New York-based middle-market lender announced Tuesday.

Robert Rowe joins the firm as executive vice president and chief credit officer. He was most recently a senior credit officer with the commercial banking unit of FirstMerit Bank. Prior to that, he served as chief credit officer of National City Bank, where he held various positions over his 20-year tenure, including a stint overseeing the approval of leveraged finance and asset-based lending transactions. He earlier worked for Irving Trust, which is now Bank of New York Mellon.

CIT also hired Nelson Chai as executive vice president, chief administrative officer and head of strategy. He will report directly to Chairman and CEO John Thain. Chai was most recently chief financial officer of NYSE Euronext. He was also the CFO of Archipelago Holdings.

CIT Group emerged from bankruptcy last December.
