Braver Stern Hires for its Mortgage Sales Team

Independent broker-dealer Braver Stern Securities hired investment strategist Scott Buchta as a managing director and the head of investment strategy.

Buchta has over 23 years of experience developing investment strategies for financial institutions across the different fixed-income sectors, focusing on RMBS, CMBS and ABS.

Buchta's addition will complement Braver Stern's recently launched Midwest mortgage sales team, and is part of an ongoing effort to expand the firm's sales and trading platform and product offerings.

He, according to a press release from the firm, will add value for clients via regular market updates, which will offer commentary and counsel on market developments. Buchta will also help develop trading strategies and serve as a resource on industry trends and analysis.

Before Braver Stern, Buchta was a managing director and the head of the investment strategy group at Guggenheim Securities

Prior to Guggenheim, he spent 20 years at Bear Stearns, where was a senior managing director in F.A.S.T., which was the former investment bank's mortgage analytics group. He also led the mortgage products group, specializing in applied mortgage research and structured agency mortgage strategy.

"Scott's proven track record of developing investment strategies and wealth of experience will further bolster the strong mortgage sales and trading team at Braver Stern," said Cliff Sterling, managing director in fixed-income sales.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join a firm that has established itself as a top-tier mortgage boutique," Buchta said. "The Braver Stern sales and trading desks are staffed with seasoned professionals who are well regarded by both sides of the street. Their platform has been client-focused from the beginning and I am looking forward to developing a top-notch strategy effort to complement their already strong trading capabilities."
