Sidley Austin promoted Chicago-based lawyer T.J. Gordon to partner in its structured finance and securitization and syndicated and leveraged finance groups.
The law firm elected to partnership 28 lawyers, 13 of which came from its Chicago office. Effective Jan. 1, the firm has 643 partners in offices in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia.
Gordon’s practice focuses on representing banks, insurance companies and other financial intermediaries in structured finance, asset securitization and secured lending deals, as well as work-outs and restructurings involving the same.
Securitizations and other financings of student loans, federally-guaranteed and private, comprise a considerable portion of his practice. Recently, he advised clients on the mergers and acquisitions of student loan lenders and student loan portfolios.
Gordon's experience also includes the securitization of various traditional and non-traditional assets, including trade receivables, credit card receivables, CLOs, franchise rights, time share receivables, equipment and motor vehicle finance receivables, small business mortgage loans and life settlements, as well as whole business securitization.
