Mitsubishi Expands New York Structured Products Group

Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (USA), part of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, made three appointments to its structured products team in New York.

John Lennon joins as executive director, overseeing trading of asset-backed securities; Ann Tran joins as director, focusing on securitizations of auto loans and credit card receivables; and Eric Shea joins as a consultant with a focus on esoteric asset classes.

They add to the core ABS team, reporting to Tricia Hazelwood, managing director & head of structured products. Tricia joined MUS (USA) in 2013 after spending 16 years at Credit Suisse, most recently as global head of ABS.

Lennon has over 20 years’ experience as a trader. He joins from Crédit Agricole, where he was head of ABS trading. Previously he ran ABS trading at JPMorgan, BNP Paribas, and UBS after starting his career as a trading assistant at Prudential Global Funding

Tran has over 15 years’ experience working in asset finance capital markets and joins from Credit Suisse, where she has spent the majority of her career to date. Her most recent role as director gave her sole responsibility for coverage of credit card, non-prime auto and peer-to-peer consumer loan sectors and jointly responsible for consumer installment and student loan sectors.

Shea has over 20 years of experience in structured products, most recently as founder of Petolas Capital, an advisory firm to assist specialty finance companies in raising capital. His career also spans firms including UBS Securities, Deutsche Bank Securities, Prudential Investment Management, and Credit Suisse First Boston

“We see great potential in the securitization market, and introducing such a wealth of ABS experience – over 50 years between them – is a real statement of intent in terms of our ambitions for the business. MUFG’s strong balance sheet and distribution capability, combined with our ability to offer structural innovation on every deal, presents a powerful offer to the market,” Hazelwood said.
