Jefferies Hires Former ML Euro Trading Head

Jefferies has hired a former Merrill Lynch managing director to run its European credit sales and trading business, the firm said today.

Jon Pliner, who was most recently Merrill Lynch's head of flow credit trading and emerging markets in Europe, will be based in London and will be responsible for Jefferies European credit trading platform, which includes the sales and trading of investment-grade and high yield bonds and loans.

He will also work with the firm’s credit trading business in the U.S. to “accelerate the development of Jefferies’ global credit trading activity,” the firm said in a release.

Pliner will report to Tim Cronin, Jefferies’ global head of fixed income, and Robert Harteveldt, who is chairman of Jefferies’ fixed income group.
