Columbus Nova snags Trimaran team

New York City-based Columbus Nova formed a Special Opportunities Fund to invest in middle-market companies through all levels of their capital structures, and the firm recruited a team from Trimaran Capital Partners to manage the effort.

The New York-based firm said its new fund, the Columbus Nova Special Opportunities Fund, would invest in senior debt, second-lien loans, mezzanine financings, distressed debt and special situations. It can also lead or co-invest in middle-market private equity deals and will invest in structured finance products, real estate financings, collateralized debt funds and asset-backed securities.

Steven Flyer, who has joined the firm as a partner. Flyer was a managing director at Trimaran, where he was responsible for sourcing, negotiating and managing private equity investments and for overall fund operation and management.

David Benyaminy has joined as a principal, and Daniel Gaspar and Gregory Prata have joined as vice presidents. At Trimaran, the three were responsible for sourcing private equity investments, performing due diligence, structuring acquisitions and monitoring portfolio companies. Calls to Trimaran were not immediately returned.
