CFPB Hires GNMA Director Haspel

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has hired Christopher C. Haspel away from the Government National Mortgage Association, giving him a top slot at the new agency, according to officials familiar with the matter.

He is expected to start at the CFPB on Monday, June 20.

At press time it was unclear what his exact title at the new agency would be, but one source noted that he will be a “senior” official at the CFPB. A GNMA spokeswoman had not returned telephone calls and emails about the matter.

Haspel, whose official title is director of GNMA’s monitoring division, oversees servicing and securitization.

During his four-decade career in financial services he has worked at such firms as BlackRock Financial, General Electric, Capital One, SAIS, and Fannie Mae.

So far, the CFPB has hired roughly 220 people and hopes to double that within the next two months.
