Cantor Fitzgerald Expands HY/Distressed Group

Cantor Fitzgerald has expanded its debt capital markets group, adding 25 new investment professionals since December, the New York-based firm announced today.

The significant hires were in the sales, trading and research departments.

The company added several experienced sales professionals. Michael Brennan, a high yield and distressed debt salesman joined form UBS. He previously worked at Credit Suisse. RBC high yield veterans Jeremy Goldman and John Lindell have also been added to the group.

Brian Devaney was hired from RBS and held sales and sales management positions there and at Merrill Lynch, Lazard Freres and EF Hutton. Kelly Robinson was formerly in credit sales at Barclays.

New analysts are also in the mix. Philip Volpicelli is Cantor’s first analyst in high yield and distressed research. He was most recently with Goldman Sachs. Colin Marshall is a distressed credit research analyst, also most recently from Goldman.

The new hires report to Martin Teevan, senior managing director of high yield and distressed trading, who joined Cantor in December from Goldman Sachs.

Earlier this month, the firm promoted Shawn Matthews to the position of CEO. He had served as head of its capital markets group. In late February, Lehman Brothers and Barclays veteran Peter Hall joined as a debt trader.

In January, Cantor hired UBS veteran John Baldo to its debt capital markets team as head of national fixed income sales.
