BofA Merrill Hires Head of Commercial Real Estate Debt Capital Markets

Michael Nierenberg, head of global mortgages & securitized products at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, announced that Michael J. Mazzei will join the company as managing director and head of commercial real estate debt capital markets. Based in New York, Mazzei will report to Nierenberg.

In this role, Mazzei will be responsible for the origination and securitization of debt financing, including CMBS, syndicated loans and term loans, for real estate companies.

Mazzei was previously at Barclays Capital where he was a managing director and co-head of global real estate capital markets and CMBS since 2004. He was formerly at Lehman Brothers for 20 years where for most of his tenure he was head of CMBS and subsequently co-head of its real estate investment banking unit.

“With nearly 25 years of working in the business, Mike has one of the most informed perspectives on the industry,” said Nierenberg. “We are very excited to add someone of his industry leadership and experience to our already strong real estate franchise.”
“Mike’s appointment also underscores our commitment to the CMBS and commercial real estate debt markets, and to the opportunities that are ahead."

Gene Godbold and I look forward to working with Mike to continue to maximize and enhance Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s fully integrated approach to advising and financing the real estate industry,” said Ron Sturzenegger, head of global real estate, gaming and lodging corporate and investment banking.
