Amherst Securities Plots CMBS Venture

Darrell Wheeler will direct Amherst Securities Group's efforts to break into the CMBS sector, and has been named senior managing director and head of CMBS strategy at the firm.

He will join the company in early-2010, according to a press release. Wheeler will be based in the New York City location.

Wheeler¹s most recent role was with Citigroup, where he was global head of securitized strategy and analysis. In this capacity, he managed the ABS research group and was lead CMBS strategist. He joined Citi in 1994.

A spokesperson for Citi told Investment Management Weekly that Mary Kane, head of consumer ABS strategy, now manages the combined securitized strategy group, as of Nov. 23. She will retain both roles.

"This is a very exciting day for Amherst, which is adding one of the leading CMBS strategists at a critical time for our clients,² said Joseph Walsh, president of Amherst, in the release. "Just as our clients have relied on Amherst for insight into the turbulent RMBS market, we believe that there is a similar need for access to loan level data, credit analysis and cash flow analytics on commercial securities. Darrell is the ideal person to provide that guidance and we expect him to play a critical role in the build-out of our CMBS team."

Amherst is a specialist broker-dealer, which analyzes and trades RMBS for institutional investors.
