Amherst Pierpont Taps Jefferies Exec To Forge CLO Business

Amherst Pierpont Securities has named former Jefferies executive Erez Biala to form and direct a new collateralized loan obligation trading and origination platform at the fixed-income broker-dealer.

Amherst named Biala managing director and head of structured credit trading and origination, which will be involved in both primary issuance of new CLO portfolios and secondary trading.

Biala joins Amherst from Jefferies, where the 15-year fixed-income structured finance veteran was managing director and global co-head of CLO/CDO trading and origination.

"Erez brings substantial industry experience and a proven record of developing successful CLO trading and origination platforms to Amherst Pierpont," said Mark B. Werner, the chief executive officer of Amherst Pierpont, in a statement. "The addition of Erez to our senior team provides one more point of connectivity to our clients. We are excited to welcome him to the firm."

Biala will work in the company’s New York office, and report to Tim Dooley, the company’s head of non-agency RMBS and CMBS trading businesses.

Biala earned an MBA at New York University’s Stern School of Business, and holds a joint degree in applied mathematics and economics with Brown University.
