TriLyn Forms New CRE Management Platform

TriLyn has formed an investment management platform focused on opportunities in high yield commercial real estate (CRE) debt.

The new unit called TriLyn Investment Management is a Securities and Exchange Commission- registered advisor and is capitalized by Dallas-based Akard Street Partners, an investment partnership operated by Hunt Realty Investments with the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.

Akard was established in 2009 to invest in select private real estate investment and operating companies to create franchise value and offer risk adjusted returns for its investors.

Its founder Mark Antoncic will run the investment management unit with John  Feeney, Jr., they are co-managing partners.

Feeney has 30 years of industry experience, including leadership roles in managing commercial and residential real estate securities, as well as various fixed-income portfolios.

Before joining TriLyn, he held various positions at Brookfield Investment Management and its predecessor companies, including chief executive officer and head of the investment committee.

"TriLyn will invest in a wide range of debt securities, for which opportunities continue to grow in the marketplace as the pace of restructuring activity picks up in the lurching real estate recovery,"  Feeney said. "We think TriLyn is as well positioned and experienced to analyze and take advantage of these investment opportunities as any specialist firm in the capital markets."
