Consisting of very short-term debt used to finance exports or imports, this sector’s size was in the realm of $6.5 trillion to $8 trillion in 2011, according to a rough measure by a study group of the Committee on the Global Finance System, part of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). But only a speck of that’s been securitized.
