Sallie Mae Apppoints Remondi as President and COO

SLM Corp., more commonly known as Sallie Mae, has appointed John (Jack) Remondi as president and chief operating officer.

In this newly created role, Remondi will be responsible for the student lender’s loan servicing, collections, information technology, credit and underwriting, and marketing and communications divisions.

Remondi has been the firm's vice chairman and chief financial officer since 2008. Most recently, he was instrumental in navigating the financial challenges resulting from the economic crisis, according to a Sallie Mae press release. He was also a key part of the firm's transformation from a GSE to a fully private, retail-focused company.

“Jack is a talented executive who well understands Sallie Mae’s operational strengths and its challenges in our new environment,” said Albert Lord, vice chairman and CEO at the student loan firm. “I congratulate him on this appointment.”

In addition, Sallie Mae also appointed Laurent Lutz as executive vice president and general counsel.

Lutz was most recently chief legal officer and secretary of BearingPoint. He was also formerly associate general counsel at Accenture  instrumental in the design and implementation of the legal aspects of the firm’s transition to a public company.

Earlier in his career, he also served as counsel to The Allstate Corp. and practiced law with Mayer Brown, Chapman and Cutler, and Snell & Wilmer.

The current finance, treasury and accounting leadership team will manage the Sallie Mae’s financial functions and report to Lord until the appointment of a new chief financial officer, according to the company's press release.
