The Obama Administration is looking at ways to support the rental housing market, according to a Reuters report.
An option it is considering is to support lending in the multifamily housing space. According to the report, the administration is considering a range of reforms such as risk-sharing with private lenders to reduce the risk to the government and taxpayer.
U.S. Representative Gary Peters speaking this week at the American Securitization Forum's 2011 annual meeting said that as the U.S. considers housing market reforms, it must also consider that home ownership may not be for everyone; and with this in mind, the U.S. needs to develop a stronger rental market.
