RBC Capital Markets hired Paul Sheldon, founder of the advisory firm S L Capital Strategies, as managing director in its municipal finance student loan group.
“Adding Paul to our national student loan practice not only helps cement our position as the top-ranked underwriter in the state agency and nonprofit sector, but also expands our footprint in the space and deepens the experience and expertise of our banking team”, said Jim Tricolli, managing director and co-head of U.S. Municipal Finance at RBC Capital Markets.
Sheldon he will report to Jeff Wagner, managing director and sector head of the muni finance student loan group.
Sheldon joins RBC from SL Capital, a firm he founded in 2007, where he has spent the past decade acting as a financial and strategic advisor to companies in the student loan space.
From 1991 to 2007, he joined and eventually led the Student Loan Investment Banking group at Smith Barney (later Citigroup), where he played a key role developing financing techniques and raising capital for issuers. Sheldon began his investment banking career at Chase Manhattan Bank in 1981, ultimately leading its student loan finance group, before departing in 1991 for Smith Barney.
