Newedge Hires Duo to Head London Fixed-Income Group

Newedge hired Bill Blain and James St Johnston as co-heads of its new special situations group (SSG) in the credit and fixed income markets.

The duo have more than 25 years experience in the development of sophisticated debt market products such as securitization, structured credit, bank capital, covered bonds and corporate debt. They were formerly from Matrix Investment Bank where they were co-heads of fixed income.

Before Matrix, Blain ran financial institutions debt capital markets at HSBC from 2002 to 2007, while St Johnston was co-global syndicate head at ABN Amro from 1999 to 2007.

James Berry also joins the SSG team from Matrix. Previously he worked between 1994 and 2009 for Tullett as head of U.S. agencies for Europe and Asia.

Prior to that, he held positions at Chase where he started his career in 1984 as a fixed-income trader. He then went to Lehman Brothers in 1989, Daiwa from 1991 to 1993 and the Central European Development Forum in 1993 as a derivative broker.

The SSG team is based in London.
