International law firm Milbank has added three well-known attorneys to its Alternative Investments Practice in New York—Michael L. Urschel, Martin Y. Eid and Kathryn Weiss.
All three of the attorneys joined Milbank from King & Spalding, with Urschel leading the move, according to a statement from Millbank. Urschel is a prominent figure in the securitization, debt capital markets, hybrid finance, and esoteric structured finance spaces, having led the team on a number of deals financing more rarefied assets, such as digital infrastructure, music royalty securitizations, and early education and care platform securitizations.
Some examples of those deals include the $860.7 million, Metronet Infrastructure 2022-1 and a $1.8 billion Concord Music Royalties, just a couple of deals were completed in the second half of 2022, according to a King & Spalding website.
The three focus their practice on asset financing and acquisition financing of complex assets, advising on multiple first-of-their-kind deals. Some of these included hybrid whole business securitizations and digital infrastructure securitizations, including transactions that use the benefits of securitization to assist in acquisition financing, according to the company.
For their work in the structured finance practice at King & Spalding, Chambers USA ranked them in Band 1 for the whole business category in 2021 and 2022. For his part, Urschel earned a Band 1 ranking in the category, while Weiss and Eid are recognized as "Up and Coming" attorneys. Legal 500 also recognized the team for their creative approaches to managing client matters.
"This uniquely talented team commands a high degree of respect in the structured finance field, and we know their collective work ethic makes them a perfect fit for the firm," according to a statement from Milbank Chairman Scott A. Edelman.
Sean M. Solis, a partner and member of the firm's Alternative Investments Group says that the team will be a valuable addition to the practice.
"We also see a tremendous opportunity for the team to cross-collaborate with our top-flight Global Project, energy and infrastructure finance group, given their strong experience with digital infrastructure securitizations and other complex transactions in relevant industries."
