Loomis Carves Out Credit Research Role

Chris Gootkind is the latest addition at Loomis, Sayles & Co., where he has joined the firm’s fixed-income group as the director of credit research and a credit strategist.

In the new role, he will report to Jae Park, CIO of fixed-income, effective Sept. 13.

Gootkind will lead the Boston-based investment manager’s 37-person credit research group, a Sept. 1 announcement said. Specifically, he will be responsible for ensuring that research is effectively and efficiently developed and delivered into the investment process. He will also join the investment grade sector team at Loomis Sayles.

Previously, Gootkind was an associate partner and credit portfolio manager at Wellington Management, which he joined in 2006 as director of credit research. Earlier, he worked at Skudder Kemper Investments in various functions, and at Mabon Nugent & Co., where he was in institutional corporate bond sales and trading. Collectively, he has 29-years of fixed-income market experience.

"We are recognized in the industry for our best-in-class credit research and we believe Chris' talents and vision will continue to enhance our research capabilities as well as our reputation," Park said in a prepared statement. "Chris' extensive research, investment and portfolio management experience make him an excellent match for this leadership role."

This new hire is the latest in a string of new additions at Loomis Sayles for its securitized, quantitative research and risk analysis, derivatives and absolute strategies teams, the statement noted. Most recently, the firm named Chris Harms to lead its relative return team.

As of June 30, Loomis Sayles managed more than $141 billion in its equity and fixed-income products for institutional and mutual clients, the announcement said.
