Former Sen. Mel Martinez Joins JPMorgan Chase

Former Senator and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Mel Martinez was named chairman of operations in Florida, Latin America, and the Caribbean at JPMorgan Chase, according to a report by Dow Jones.

Martinez will represent the bank in the region as the firm continues to expand international operations, the report said.

The former policymaker immigrated to Florida as a Cuban refugee at 15, under the humanitarian program Operation Peter Pan. He has worked as a partner at DLA Piper in Orlando since he resigned from the Senate last year, according to Dow Jones.

"Mel has been a business and civic leader and a role model in Florida for decades," said chairman and chief executive Jamie Dimon in the Dow Jones report. "He has served the people of Florida well at both the local and national level."
