Dechert Hires Lawyer for FRE Group

Dechert hired Lawrence Berkovich as counsel in its finance and real estate (FRE) group. He was most recently special counsel at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

Berkovich, who will be based in the firm’s Charlotte office, focuses on complex structured finance offerings, specifically on cash, synthetic and hybrid structured products such as CLOs and CDOs.

He has considerable experience with “cash flow” and “market value” structures and leveraged loan warehouse facilities as well as credit default and total return swaps, negative basis trades with various monolines, revolving and delayed draw tranches and interest rate and foreign currency hedging arrangements.

He also represents clients in the structuring and offering of interests in different opportunity funds and in workouts and restructurings of distressed and defaulted structured products.

Additionally, he has advised on various cross-border and domestic private equity and venture capital deals, such as sales and exchanges of securities, growth equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, sales of assets, leveraged buy outs, restructurings and recapitalizations.

Berkovich also has experience in derivative product offerings and in matters regarding the U.S. federal securities laws. He has represented both Chinese and U.S. clients in cross-border transactions involving businesses in the People’s Republic of China.

“Larry is a terrific lawyer, creative and client focused. I've been across the table from Larry in the past and he always impressed me,” said Richard Jones, co-chair of Dechert’s FRE group. “So its gratifying to have him join us at Dechert where I know he will help our outstanding structured finance team to continue to succeed and grow."
