Bingham Boosts D.C. Securities Practice

Bingham McCutchen hired Lizzie Baird as a partner in its broker-dealer group. Baird joined Bingham’s Washington, D.C. office from O’Melveny & Myers.

Her practice is focused on securities enforcement defense, internal investigations, and regulatory
and corporate counseling. Her areas of concentration include fixed-income, securities lending, prime brokerage, trading, regulatory examinations and derivatives. She represents clients cases such as variable annuity sales practices, mutual fund issues and insider trading, among others.

Baird represents companies and individuals in connection with investigations by Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and other federal and state government agencies and self regulatory organizations. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Baird traded municipal bonds on Wall Street for nearly 10 years.

Baird's addition follows recent additions in D.C. including Geoffrey Aronow, former enforcement director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and former managing shareholder of Heller Ehrman’s D.C. office; Michael Wolk, former chief counsel of market regulation at NASD (now FINRA); Amy Kroll, former SEC assistant general counsel; and Peggy Blake, a former lawyer in the division of market regulation at the SEC. Other recent additions include New York-based lawyers Kenneth Kopelman, former head of the fixed income and derivatives legal groups at Bear Stearns, Gerald Russello, former managing director of Bear Stearns’ legal department,
and Chris Atkinson.

“Lizzie’s arrival represents Bingham’s latest investment in our decade-long commitment to build a premier national and international securities practice,” said Neal Sullivan, co-chair of Bingham’s financial services area and co-managing partner of the D.C. office. “We’re excited to have Lizzie on our team.”

“Our securities team is recognized as an industry leader,”  Sullivan said, “and Lizzie enables us to continue to grow strategically and nationally to better serve clients.”

“Bingham has the ear and the respect of a huge array of financial institutions,” Baird said. “Bingham’s standing and its continued investment in growing its broker-dealer practice as an industry leader naturally attracted me, and I am thrilled to be part of this dynamic team.”
