Asset management firm Ranieri Strategies has hired Eric Kaplan, the former head of MBS Finance at Shellpoint Partners. Both are companies founded by Lewis S. Ranieri.

At Ranieri Strategies, Kaplan will serve as managing partner, structured finance.

In addition to focusing on Ranieri Strategies' investment opportunities, he will work closely with founder Ranieri on housing, mortgage and RMBS reform with regulators and industry colleagues.

Kaplan has more than 22 years of residential mortgage industry experience. He joined Shellpoint shortly after its 2011 acquisition of New Penn Financial.

At Shellpoint he focused on building the firm’s non-agency residential mortgage securitization and whole loan program.

Prior to Shellpoint, Kaplan worked for 8-1/2 years at Morgan Stanley, helping to develop and manage its distressed residential mortgage business and covering a wide range of structured transactions and advisory engagements.

He is currently chair of the Structured Finance Industry Group’s (SFIG) "RMBS 3.0" Task Force, the industry-led initiative established to expand private label RMBS volume.
