Assured Guaranty announced today that chief operating officer Séan W. McCarthy will be leaving the company at the end of the month to “pursue other opportunities.”
Assured Guaranty’s operating units will report directly to chief executive officer Dominic Frederico.
McCarthy has been the bond insurer’s chief operating officer since November 2009. Before that he was chief operating officer of Assured Guaranty Municipal Holdings, which combined with Financial Security Assurance in 2009 under the Assured umbrella.
McCarthy was named managing director of Assured in 1989, and in April 1993 became head of the financial guaranty department.
Before joining Assured in 1988, McCarthy was a vice president of PaineWebber.
McCarthy “has made a strong contribution toward the successful integration of FSA Holdings into Assured Guaranty,” Frederico said in a statement.
“Over 24 years at FSA, Séan played a major role in building FSA into an industry leader,” he said. “We wish him the best in his new endeavors.”
