Amherst Taps Chris McDowell for CMBS Trading

Amherst Securities Group has brought on UBS veteran Chris McDowell as part of an effort to expand its commercial real estate finance business.

McDowell joins as a managing director in fixed income trading and sales, the company said in a press release issued Tuesday. He willl be a sales generalist responsible for commercial real estate securitization and structured funding transactions and will be based in the firm’s New York office.

“With over 15 years of broad-based experience in real estate financing, Chris will be an important asset to our clients as the firm continues to expand its business and expertise in this key asset area," said Dan Hoffman, the group’s senior managing director.

At UBS, MdDowell was a managing director for the securitized products group focusing on commercial real estate since 2011. Before UBS, McDowell held positions at Bank for America, Robert W. Baird, and Lehman Brothers.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Amherst Securities Group is a specialist broker-dealer with an emphasis on analyzing and trading residential mortgage-backed securities. The group is an approved underwriter of securities issued by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHL Banks. Amherst is the principal subsidiary of Amherst Holdings, a holding company for several companies dedicated to assisting institutional investors in the U.S. mortgage markets.
