Chris Liedel

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Christopher Liedel is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the National Geographic Society, Washington, DC. He is responsible for operations and financial administration of the Society, reporting to the President and Board of Trustees on oversight of more than $1 billion in investments, information services, systems and technology, purchasing, distribution and facilities management, production, and operating infrastructure. Liedel was tapped as chief financial office in 1997, not long after joining the Society in 1996 as vice president for strategic planning. Previously he held increasingly responsible management positions with Ringier America, from 1991 to 1996, ending as senior vice president of operations. Liedel was general manager of America Signature Technologies in Atlanta from 1988 to 1991. He is affiliated with Nobel Prize Education Fund, National Philanthropic Trust, United States Golf Association, Amazon Center for Environmental Educational and Research (ACEER), Foundational Questions in Physics Institute (FQXI) Templeton Foundation, Institute for Gravitation and Cosmos (IGC), NOVICA.com, and National Geographic School Publishing, Inc. Liedel earned a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, a master’s degree in decision science from Georgia State University, and is currently a Wharton Fellow from the University of Pennsylvania.
